The Secretary General of Socialist Youth of Archena (JS Archena), Michael Ruiz,
Archena Socialist Youth has made the occasion of the celebration of World Health Day, called on the government, and especially the City of Archena, to put in place the necessary measures to prevent, detect and treat eating disorders among the younger population.
"The eating disorders have become in recent decades into a veritable epidemic among adolescents, affecting 7% of the Spanish population", has informed the Secretary General of Archena JS, Michael Ruiz, who has been particularly concerned about the "steady increase in both young obese or overweight as those who suffer from anorexia and bulimia, diseases that are beginning to affect children under 9 years."
"During the consultations in family medicine or mental health disorders, eating disorders (ED) are common and continue to rise.
Therefore, from JS Archena we have developed a motion municipal filings and Archena City Council, which urge the government to get involved and implement campaigns for prevention and early detection. "
Moreover, "we consider it essential that the Autonomous Communities, in collaboration with the municipalities or associations of municipalities, create specific centers, multidisciplinary teams and support networks capable of developing specific skills and techniques as essential support to these disorders."
Mireia Ruiz gave as an example of action NAOS Strategy, launched in 2005 by the Ministry of Health and the Spanish Food Safety Agency (AESAN), with the aim of raising awareness of the problem of obesity on health, and promoting healthy lifestyles, particularly through a healthy diet and regular practice of physical activity.
"If anything we should emphasize the NAOS strategy, apart from its objectives, the wide range of activity that is open, the family, school environment, business and health care.
The working method used has put Spain in a prominent place among the countries to whom an increased dynamism in confronting the challenge of countering the obesity epidemic, and was recognized as the European regional office of the Organization Health, in its Ministerial Conference in Istanbul in November 2006, gave one of his awards, by the way it deals with collaboration between public and private social actors. "
"It has opened a line of work being shown effective and that has to be extended to all eating disorders.
And we believe it is essential that public administrations are precisely those that are closer to citizens, local councils, which, with the help of the Autonomous Communities, to implement prevention and detection campaigns involving the whole society in this task, form, reporting and intervening with the means to detect the problem and tackle it early and with guarantees. "
"According to the Association in Defense of Attention for Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia.
(Adam), eating disorders are the second leading cause of death among young people after road accidents, a figure which shows the seriousness of the problem and the need to act urgently and effectively. "
"This is the reason that since JS Archena we decided to take the celebration of World Health Day to call attention to these disorders, because as a generation we must show the greatest possible sensitivity to this problem because we are immersed in a society subjected to a constant, while encouraging the consumption of unhealthy products, we are bombarded with so-called perfect bodies, linking social success with a figure 10, in most cases unattainable. "
"It's about promoting healthy lifestyles and to strengthen self-esteem based on personality traits and values rather than on body image, while working to eradicate these stereotypes," said Michael Ruiz, who believes that "young people are subjected to a constant media pressure, and in many cases is precisely the inability to realize is the image of perfection that comes to us through different means which causes among younger people is a frustration origin of some of these problems.
