J. Socialists: "The best way to combat discriminatory conduct is to promote equal education, as does Education for Citizenship" (02/04/2009)

Note from YS:

Archena Socialist Youth (JS Archena) has expressed concern at the report by the Agency for Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which warns of homophobia in the EU territory, claiming that both the results of study the recommendations made by the agency showed "how necessary it is in our society that a subject such as Education for Citizenship is taught in schools."

For the Secretary General of Archena JS, Michael Ruiz, "the best way to combat discriminatory conduct is promoting an education in equality, as does education for citizenship, a subject that has among its main objectives to publicize and promote respect for diversity. "

"It is no coincidence that the Agency for Human Rights with special emphasis on the need for school curricula to include sexual orientation issues where the group displayed represented with respect and dignity," said Ruiz.

To JS Archena, "once more the institutions of the European Union promote the implementation of educational programs that are part of the contents of citizenship education, and demonstrate that all the arguments put forward against the subject by the political right and social, are nothing more than excuses behind which to hide behind those who do not believe that equality and respect for cultural, religious and sexual identity should be the pillars on which our society rests. "

"So do not hesitate to oppose and protest against any measure to the expansion of individual rights or the recognition and promotion of real equality among all citizens.

Just do not believe in freedom, much less are willing to respect those who live, feel or think differently, those who do not submit to its dictates and are governed by principles different from yours "

Thus, Mireia Ruiz noted that the report itself qualifies as a problem to be solved by the position of certain religious groups, "among which is certainly the Catholic Church in our country," who engage in discussions the rights of homosexuals and often mobilize and fight against access to these rights.

"A stance that clearly contradicts the principles governing democratic and secular society, as is Spanish, and the dictates that the European Union, whose Charter of Fundamental Rights, proclaimed in 2000, expressly prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation" .

Therefore, from JS Archena has asked the political and social right to change their attitude, to help promote respect for diversity in all areas of society, including schools, and to fight against homophobia, "a form stupid and cruel hatred which unfortunately continues to do much damage to thousands of Spanish citizens and the European Union.
