Archena Socialist Youth (JS Archena) has joined the campaign "Earth Hour", an initiative launched by WWF ADENA NGO whose aim is to push through the website the involvement of citizens, organizations, institutions , governments and businesses in the fight against climate change.
"Earth Hour" is an event that suggests that on Saturday 28 March, and for one hour (20:30 to 21:30) the lights of the main monuments and buildings in the world, an initiative to already joined the main Spanish cities.
"The promotion of respect and protection of the environment are two of our key policy priorities," said the Secretary General of Archena JS, Michael Ruiz, who said that young socialists always join any initiative aimed at raising awareness the importance of preserving the environment, encourage saving and energy efficiency, demand compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, and defend the use of renewable energy and phasing out nuclear power plants
"From JS Archena understand that the best way to protect, preserve and improve our environment is to go for environmental policies that achieve a balance between economic development and environmental protection, and therefore we propose the implementation of measures to promote savings and energy efficiency and social awareness as the best way to combat climate change. "
In addition, young socialists believe that protecting the environment and curb climate change are essential steps to ensure a better future for all, and therefore "we urge the Government to continue investing in R & D & I in promoting renewable energy, not only as a prerequisite for combating climate change and reduce our energy dependency, but as a key factor in future economic growth of our country, "said Michael Ruiz.
"We believe we must seize the current economic and financial crisis that we are struggling to change our production model.
We must be able to turn the challenges we face at this moment as an opportunity to consolidate a model of sustainable and sustained economic growth, capable of making use of new technologies and renewable energies and environmental protection in the main source of wealth for the country, "concluded the Secretary General of JS Archena.
