Archena Socialist Youth has asked the City Council Archena, to demonstrate its commitment to the environment to strengthen their efforts in the task of promoting the use of alternative transportation methods to the private car, through the construction of bicycle paths, pedestrian routes and improving the public transport network,
In a manifesto written on the occasion of the celebration of European Car Free Day, young socialists stressed the need for citizens' concern for the environment is translated into new behaviors and attitudes in the use of transport, but have stressed that that change is possible if the government does not put everything on your side "so there is no excuse when you leave the car at home."
Socialist Youth has stressed in its manifesto that "even though half of the journeys we make to carry out daily activities are less than 3 km, the majority of citizens chose the car for these trips, that in 75 % of cases are performed in cars carrying only one occupant, "and have emphasized that this attitude is not only harmful to the environment," but also is expensive for our pockets, because in the short haul increase in consumption is 60% higher. "
According Mireia Pilar Ruiz, S ª General JS Archena, "even though every day more citizens to express their concern for the environment and the possible effects of climate change, urban traffic increases continuously contributing to the deteriorating air and quality of life ", so from Young Socialists have called for greater awareness, and that" all citizens, civic and government, are and should be actors in environmental management with the actions we take every day " and have stressed that environmental conservation is everybody's business, which requires a clear commitment by all stakeholders.
In addition, since JS Archena, have asked the public to participate in events organized to mark Car Free Day, and have pledged to work to increase public policies promoting the use of alternative transport to the car.
Thus, young socialists have claimed the need to launch sustainable mobility plans, including the promotion of cycling by creating basic network of bicycle paths.
In addition, Mireia Pilar Ruiz, also claimed the need to implement vertical transport systems to facilitate pedestrian movement, the unified organization of the transport system in the county level, and the impulse to the creation of parking transport links groups, such as buses in remote areas, as an alternative to private vehicle access to urban centers.
Finally, young Socialists have called for the implementation of information campaigns on public transport and private groups to enhance their use from an image of "prestige" and quality way, "take me" "no stress."
European Car Free Day.
22 September 2008.
The week of 16 to 22 September is celebrated in Europe, under the slogan "Clean Air for All", the Sustainable Mobility Week, which concludes with the celebration on September 22, the Car Free Day.
From Young Socialists want our commitment to the Environment and Combating Climate Change is evident every day, so we support this initiative and encourage all citizens to participate in events organized in their cities and towns.
With the Car Free Day aims to promote sustainable urban mobility, promote public transport and raise public awareness of the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and particulates into the atmosphere, and noise pollution, especially in urban environments.
Socialists Young people know that one of the main causes of climate change is transportation, but we are also aware that if each of us did a little effort to change our habits when it comes to move around our towns and cities, we are doing a great contribution in the fight to reduce the emission of gases into the atmosphere.
In fact, even though half of the trips that we do for the city to carry out daily activities are less than 3 km, the majority chose the car for these journeys in 75% of cases in cars have only one occupant, an attitude that not only contributes to increasing pollution of our environment, but also is expensive for our pockets, and short trips in consumption growth is 60% larger.
Although each day brings more citizens to express their concern for the environment and the possible effects of climate change, urban traffic is continuously increasing and contributing to the deteriorating air quality of life.
To change this trend is essential to public awareness, but also the cooperation of the government, and especially the municipalities, which must redouble efforts to work to improve public transport and provide the public transport alternatives to car private, with the construction of bicycle lanes, creating footpaths etc.
The young socialists and we are committed to social awareness and raise awareness of the need to use cars less and make more use of other alternative forms of displacement, but we are also convinced of the need to work for the Administration Public facilitate this change of attitude among the citizenry, using all means at its disposal so that no excuse when you leave the car at home.
All citizens and government, are and should be actors in environmental management with the actions we perform every day.
Because environmental conservation is everybody's business.
Therefore, from Young Socialists, we encourage all people to meet on 22 with their environment and leave the car in the garage, and we pledge to work for the government join forces with the aim of ensuring that, among other , the regional authorities to do their part when implementing the following measures:
Development of sustainable mobility plans aimed at strengthening the less polluting transport methods, and encourage less use of private cars
Promoting cycling as a natural way of urban transport by setting up a basic network of bicycle paths, the impulse free loan system, the installation of safe parking at railway stations and intermodal
