The Mayor of Murcia, Patricia Fernandez, and the Director General of Highways, José Antonio Guijarro, presented today at work Archena the draft of a new roundabout on the variant of the town, on the highway RM-544, specifically at the junction of the ring road and Avenida de las Minas de La Algaida, whose construction will represent a significant improvement of road safety in the area.
José Guijarro said his department has designed the transformation of the current variant of the roundabout heading into a complete roundabout properly resolve the intersection of Las Minas and La Algaida, whose average intensity of traffic has increased exponentially in recent years.
"Currently this variant has an average daily traffic of 8,000 vehicles, with 5.6 percent of heavy vehicles, and the Rue de la Algaida, over 2,000, making this intersection has become a stretch of accident concentration in which it is appropriate to act, "said the Director.
Meanwhile, Patricia Fernandez has greatly appreciated the start of this run, "which will mean an almost total brake the many accidents that occur on this stretch, some fatal. This is an important work for the municipality as a whole, since archeneros primarily used daily and algaideros ".
In view of the available land and the deposition of the vials concurring in the intersection, the Highways Agency has projected an elliptical roundabout 40 by 30 feet, with two lanes of four meters.
In addition, to improve the functioning of the intersection and avoid passing through the roundabout of vehicles that are exchanged between the streets of Las Minas and La Algaida Murillo, is also a mini roundabout arranged asymmetrically between the two, plus direct lane clockwise rotation.
With the construction of this roundabout will significantly improve road safety in this important road with a budget of 247,779 euros and will be included in the department's action plan for next year.
