Five municipalities in the Region of Murcia, including Archena, exchange ideas on energy efficiency and move towards compliance with the Covenant of Mayors.
Representatives of the municipalities of Murcia, in this case the Councillor Chair, Education and Youth, Mario Alcaraz, Alhama de Murcia, Blanca, La Torre Pacheco Union and met with city officials last days in other European countries.
The Autonomous Community of Murcia recently participated in a conference on energy efficiency and savings held in Crete (Greece), attended by 60 municipal representatives from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Malta, Cyprus and Slovenia.
Among those in the Community of Murcia, were responsible municipal Archena (Councillor of the Presidency, Education and Youth, Mario Alcaraz), Alhama de Murcia, Blanca, La Union and Torre Pacheco.
The meeting served to know that each municipality proposed saving measures and energy efficiency are being designed to achieve compliance by the Covenant of Mayors.
This agreement aims to reduce by 20 percent the emissions of greenhouse gases and energy consumption of citizens, businesses and public administrations, as well as increasing renewable energy use.
One purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences with eight municipalities in the Italian region of Liguria, which have already implemented energy saving measures and are working on the implementation of the European Energy Award.
During the roundtables, representatives of the region know the main problems that have faced these Italian municipalities.
The meeting is part of the European project 'Medeea', which proposes a seal of quality on energy management to the municipalities of the Region of Murcia.
The Ministry of Universities, Business and Research, through the Energy Management Agency of the Region of Murcia (Argemir), gave a presentation on project financing schemes for energy and energy expenditure in municipalities, "which is a of the issues that most concern to municipal officials, "explained the managing director of the Agency, Teodoro Garcia.
