The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Archena, Marcos Manuel Sanchez, today made the first stone of the new bridge over the river Segura in Archena, a work that will satisfy historical demand of the citizens of municipality to improve communications in the locality.
The counselor noted that "this is a coordinated action between the regional executive of the municipality and the municipality which will build a new bridge with a total width of thirteen feet, with one lane in each direction and two sidewalks for pedestrian traffic."
Thus, the present iron bridge, which will move to ensure the conservation of architectural heritage Archena will be replaced by a new 183 meters in length will allow a comfortable and safe driving at more than 5.5 million transits year.
The work will involve an investment of 1,361,107 euros and will improve road safety through the simultaneous traffic in both directions and the installation of a next-generation lighting and low energy consumption to provide optimum visibility for drivers.
"In addition, the works will improve access to Archena from the A-30 (Cartagena-Murcia-Albacete), through the RM-554 road, and from the crossing of the town (T-554), improving the flow of a lot of commute, "said José Ballesta.
Finally, the counselor noted that "with respect to pedestrian traffic, this will also be improved with new sidewalks and the installation of guard rails that will avoid accidents backlit at night, one of the moments of greatest risk to drivers."
