The Governing Council has given the green light to the conclusion of a contract for the construction of a new bridge over the river Segura in Archena, in addition to the adaptation and repair of the current iron bridge, with a total budget of 4,162,900 euros, of which 865,000 euros correspond to the game for this year and the 3,297,900 euros to the year 2019.
The objective of this action is to improve access to the town by the main road from the A-30 highway (Cartagena-Albacete) and increase the mobility of the more than 1,786,000 vehicles that annually pass through this entrance to the urban core .
Works are scheduled to begin this summer and conclude before the end of 2019.
The new infrastructure will be built next to the current bridge to provide it with two traffic lanes, one in each direction, in the urban section of the regional highway RM-554, the main access road to Archena.
The new bridge will approach the existing one, so that each one serves a sense of circulation.
In this way, the limitations of the current bridge, whose width of the road does not allow the implementation of two traffic lanes and can only work in one direction or another alternately by means of traffic light regulation, are resolved.
The work is completed with the remodeling of the existing bridge, which has special protection in urban planning, and the replacement of affected services.
