The Federation of Triathlon of the Region of Murcia reports the calendar of official tests for 2018 that starts on Saturday January 20 in Archena, with the Regional Duathlon Championship by teams.
Among the most significant changes presented by the calendar since its approval at the General Assembly on December 2, is the celebration of the King and Queen Cup in Águilas, replacing the Spanish Sprint Triathlon Championship, which will go on to celebrate in Banyoles.
The entity that presides Diego Calvo is also developing new competitions that promote the practice of triathlon and that enable new initiatives such as cross triathlon in the Region of Murcia.
Among others, new venues that host competitions and the possibility of performing a triathlon without drafting are being considered in order to complete the annual calendar.
The calendar is structured in three blocks, according to the disciplines that comprise the Triathlon.
Thus, for the winter stage the competitions of the duathlon modality will be held, which consists of three segments, two of foot race and one of cycling.
Beginning in April, the triathlon season will begin, in which Águilas will host 3 national competitions.
The first one will be the Military Spain Championship (May 3), and on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of that same month, it will host the King's Cup and the Triathlon Queen that will also be Club Regional Championship (5 of May) and the Spanish Relay Championship (May 6), as confirmed by the FETRI to the Murcian Federation.
The summer will also be the time of Acuatlon with two tests that will be done only for minors.
Once the summer is over, the duathlon cross season will begin.
After the latest incorporation of the Jumilla City Duathlon to the official calendar (March 10), the 2018 season is comprised of 8 Duathlon, 9 Triathlon and 4 Cross Duathlon events, although it is expected that it can be extended with cross triathlon and a triathlon without drafting.
To these tests should be added the Regional Duathlon Championships by Archena Teams (January 20), Triathlon by Yecla Relays (July 1), Mar Menor Games (October 7) and the popular triathlons of Alhama (June 23) and San Pedro del Pinatar (September 8), in addition to the Morfagones Cross Mills Duathlon (September 15) which is popular and does not score for the league.
In addition, the Minors will have their own league with 6 duathlon, plus the Regional Duathlon School Championship in San Pedro del Pinatar (March 17);
7 triathlons, plus the Regional School Triathlon Championship in Murcia (May 19);
