The Health Minister visits the health center of Archena
The health center of Archena will begin the process of implementation of the Teledermatology Service that will be launched in the Vega Media del Segura.
Starting in mid-October, this initiative will be developed already in the health area of ​​Cartagena, which favors the reduction of waiting times for patients requiring specialized care.
Teledermatology uses telecommunication technologies to exchange medical information at a distance.
The health minister, Manuel Villegas, accompanied by the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernandez, visited the health center today, where he explained that "this new system and methodology allows to reduce the waiting times of patients with melanoma and others types of skin cancer that require specialized care. "
Likewise, "it favors the early detection, which improves its prognosis avoiding more complex managements when these are detected belatedly".
The objective of this procedure is to decrease unnecessary excisions in benign skin lesions and to increase the accuracy of diagnoses of melanomas, especially in the beginning.
Thanks to Teledermatology, the family doctor can send the information and the photograph of the lesion to the referral hospital and can be offered a diagnosis in 24 hours.
In addition to the conventional images, more precise dermatoscopic images will be used, which are attached to the information incorporated into a created within the Selene computer program.
More than 23,000 health cards
The health center and the five peripheral clinics attached to it serve a population of 23,595 inhabitants with individual health card, of which 3,558 are under 14 years of age assigned to pediatrics.
These are patients living in the urban core of Archena, as well as Ojós, Ricote, Ulea and Villanueva.
During the past year, more than eleven million primary care consultations were attended in the Region.
Of these, 219,368 were performed in the municipality of Archena (127,009 were family and community medicine, 21,684 pediatrics and 70,675 nursing)
The health center building has nine GPs and eight adult nursing.
Nowadays it provides services of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Nursing, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Extraction and collection of samples, Attention to the user and Processing of benefits like oxygen therapy and orthoses.
