It will be discharged of traffic of the original structure qualified as BIC and the mobility of the locality will be improved
The Ministry of Presidency and Development will preserve the metal bridge of Archena and keep it in service in outgoing circulation, and will build a new bridge, parallel to the current one for the direction of entry traffic, which will improve the mobility of the locality.
The Director General of Highways, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, presented today this proposal to the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernandez, which will involve an investment by the Community of 1.9 million euros.
The drafting of the project and its bidding will be carried out during this year so that in 2018 the work will be executed.
Fernández Lladó said that the bridge splitting from the Segura River on the RM-554 regional road, which leads to Archena from the A-30 motorway, "solves the bottleneck in the main entrance of the municipality and gets the preservation of the bridge Which is a Cultural Interest (BIC).
The restoration of the original bridge will involve reinforcement, repair and beautification.
According to the director general explained, "we will value the bridge because, with the solution proposed by the Ministry, we will reduce traffic on it to half of what it supports today which will extend its useful life."
In the metallic bridge, it will only be necessary to dismantle and remove the sidewalk from the side upstream of the bridge, which protrudes from the main structure, which is an addition to the original structure and is not part of the original project.
The head of roads explained that the proposal includes the construction of a new bridge board parallel to it, on the upstream side, almost glued, with concrete structure, at the same time, "and that will not be a disturbing element of the View of the iron bridge, so that it does not take away protagonism ".
It would be a bridge 660 centimeters, which would include an interior shoulder, the vehicle lane, a sidewalk and a guard rail.
The director indicated that to link the new bridge would run two curves of radius greater than 100 meters within the existing urban space, "which is technically possible and is a suitable solution for traffic and speed of the road.
