The Mayor of Murcia, Patricia Fernandez, has given orders to the municipal legal services for which filed the corresponding legal action against the CHS (Hydrographic Confederation of Segura) for not having clean reeds and other trees the river Segura as it passes through Archena, despite having applied the first local authority in writing repeatedly said action, one of which by personal interview.
The Mayor has taken this decision after the fire that occurred on Friday about 19.00 right on the banks of the river up to the town of Archena.
Spectacular fire that lasted over five hours and which burned a hectare of reeds, poplars, tamarisks and palm trees.
They had to intervene to smother three helicopters, 22 environmental agents and anti-fire brigades, 10 fire fighters, 4 policemen and 2 civilians local guards.
The Mayor has stated that for more than a year ago has been asked repeatedly to the President of the CHS, only competent institution in the field, the urgent cleaning reeds and trees that still exists on the banks of the River Segura, even in once, in February, by personal interview in the office of President of the CHS.
The first local authority concerned in a while the amount of cane and other crops that accumulate in the river, for any damages that might result, as happened in the fire last Friday.
A Fernandez also urges this performance since September is season torrential rains in the region and no cleaning can cause inundaciones.-
