The Virgin of Health, Patroness of Archena, is from last night Mayor Perpetua de Archena.
The first mayor of the municipality, Patricia Fernández, together with the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Monsignor Lorca Planes, and the President of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, placed the stick of command to the Patroness, which grants her this honorary municipal title .
In addition, were present the Minister of Development, Patricio Valverde, the Minister of Culture, Miriam Guardiola, mayors of other towns in the region, the local government team, various associations and fraternities of the Virgin of Health from other locations.
The event, which was attended by more than 2,000 people, was developed after an extraordinary solemn Mass, officiated by the highest ecclesiastical ruler of the Diocese, which took place on Avenida del Carril and in which musical accompaniment was not lacking of the Musical Group of Santa Cecilia de Archena and the Choral Musicatessen.
Subsequently, the Virgin of Health moved in procession to the Parish Church San Juan Bautista, accompanied by the civil and ecclesiastical authorities mentioned above.
The extraordinary plenary session of the Municipality of Archena, at the proposal of the PP, with the abstention of PSOE, and the rejection of Ganar Archena, agreed to grant this municipal distinction to the patron saint of the municipality.
