The extraordinary plenary session of the City of Archena, at the proposal of the Popular Group, approved last night with the votes in favor of the councilors of the PP, the abstention of the PSOE, and the rejection of Ganar Archena, grant the honorific municipal distinction of 'Mayor Perpetua de Archena 'to the Virgen de la Salud, patron saint of the town.
Act that with all solemnity and on the avenue of Carril de Archena, will take place next Sunday, March 24, starting at 6:00 pm, and with the assistance of the President of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, and the Mayor Patricia Fernández López and the entire Municipal Government Team and officiated the mass, prior to the act of concession, by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Monsignor Lorca Planes.
By municipal resolution dated September 14, 2018 began the administrative file for the awarding of this honorary distinction of Mayor Perpetua to the Virgin of Health, co-patron with the Corpus Christi municipality.
Since then, accessions have been requested for the award of this distinction, with about one thousand being received among groups, associations and institutions, both civil and ecclesiastical, as well as numerous neighbors of Archena and citizens of other points of the Region, who have wanted to join this popular initiative.
At the initial proposal of the Mayor Patricia Fernández, once proven the roots and the enormous devotion of the image of the Virgin of Health, in the common cultural, religious and even historical heritage (acclaimed patron by popular crowd in 1939, only days after the end of the civil strife) of the municipality, it is for what has been decided to grant this honorary title, one of the most distinguished titles granted by the City Council.
