The Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena-Murcia, Monsignor Lorca Planes, presided over this morning the funeral Mass of the Favorite Son of the Villa of Archena, the priest and poet Antonio López Baeza, accompanied by the Vicar General, Juan Tudela, of Area and Parish Priest of San Juan de Archena, Alfonso Alburquerque, and the Episcopal Delegate of the Liturgy, as well as more than fifty priests from Alicante, Almeria and other Spanish provinces, friends of the deceased.
López Baeza died yesterday when he was 82 years old and was born in Archena.
The title of Favorite Son was granted to him in the municipal plenary of May 4, 2009,
The Parish of Corpus-La Purisima, where the Eucharist was celebrated, was already full of friends and followers of López Baeza, minutes before the religious ceremony began.
The Mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernandez, and councilors of the Municipal Government Team, the Secretary of the Family Ministry and former mayor of Archena, Manuel Marcos Sánchez, as well as the official chronicler of Archena, also attended this official religious ceremony.
In addition to priests of the congregation Carros de Foucauld, of which the deceased was president, who have also attended this funeral, as well as the choir Grupo Fontanar of Santo Domingo de Murcia that has sung the mass.
According to the priest and close friend of this beloved Son of Archena, Antonio Sicilia, director of the Eucharist, all the readings, as well as the chants that the aforementioned choir performed, were chosen by López Baeza himself, days before his death
Bishop Lorca Planes in his homily paid the deceased an emotional tribute highlighting his humanity and his dedication to others every time he asked for any help.
After the funeral mass, the coffin was carried to the exit of the parochial temple by priests friends of his and dismissed by a clamouse and continued applause of the assistants to this religious ceremony.
