The Mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernandez, has delivered, this morning, to the General Director of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, Juan Antonio Lorca, of the images of the Sorrowful Virgin and the Christ of Mount Calvary, coming from the parish church of San Juan Bautista de Archena, so that the Regional Restoration Center can start the conservation and restoration work of both sizes, with the aim of finishing them before the beginning of Holy Week next year.
Both images process, with their corresponding guilds, through the archeneras streets and are of great devotion among the local population.
The image of the Sorrowful Virgin, of the sculptor Juan Gonzalez Moreno and the carving of the Christ of the Calvary Mount, articulated, of the archenero sculptor Enrique Rooms, realized between the years 1942-1943, begin in this way their awaited period of restoration and it is fulfilled thus the commitment of the Mayor of Archena with the titular Confraternities of the same, present next to representatives of the parochial church, in this delivery.
The General Director of Cultural Assets, likewise, has committed himself with the first municipal authority to restore, also, the size of the Virgin of the Rosary, of the same Archenera parish church, after these works are completed.
