The University of Murcia and the City of Archena have signed on Tuesday the agreement that creates the permanent headquarters of the UMU in the municipality.
The mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández, and the rector, José Luján, have signed the agreement whereby the teaching institution will have an active presence in the development of educational, cultural, sports and social activities in the town.
With this agreement there are already 31 permanent headquarters of the UMU, which has set the challenge of getting the University has a stable presence in the 45 municipalities of the Region of Murcia.
During the signing of the agreement, Alicia Rubio, vice-chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, has highlighted as one of the missions of the University the dissemination of comprehensive knowledge in their environment "and for that it is necessary to leave our campus".
Patricia Fernandez has assured that "today is an important day for Archena" because from now on the presence of the UMU in the municipality will be continued.
"Our idea and the goal is that the University of Murcia is present in all our projects, not only those that have to do with university students or young people," said the mayor, who has advanced that one of the first projects in which will count on the permanent headquarters will be the centenary acts of Inocencio Medina.
For his part, the rector was very satisfied with the signing of the agreement with Archena, a municipality with which he recalled that there is a wealth of relationships for a long time that from now on will intensify much more.
Especially, the rector wanted to thank his work to Professor Jesus Hernandez Cascales, who will be the director of the permanent headquarters.
Luján has defended the importance of the University of Murcia being present throughout the Region as a sign that it is an institution that represents and unites the entire Autonomous Community.
