Some 1,800 elderly people of Archena participate this year in the activities of active aging programmed by the social center of older people of the Murcia Institute of Social Action (IMAS), which include 24 workshops (with a total of 48 different groups), weekly dances, trips, excursions and sports championships, among others.
The objective of this action is to promote the quality of life of the elderly, proposing activities that encourage active aging.
The program that the IMAS offers in senior centers also includes workshops on health and well-being promotion, personal development and life cycle, as well as training, social participation and volunteer projects.
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, attended today the coexistence organized to mark the 18th anniversary of this center of Archena, and noted that this year his Department will allocate some 800,000 euros to care for the elderly in the municipality, which represents an increase of 100,000 euros with respect to the previous year.
This amount includes the hiring of 64 places in the day center and the residence 'Nuevo Azahar' by the IMAS.
The regional government promotes healthy aging, which promotes personal autonomy, integration and full participation, through the activities programmed in the 17 centers of its ownership, which have more than 100,000 members.
This year more than 350 workshops on gymnastics, crafts, poetry, theater, intergenerational exchanges and painting, among others, are planned.
