Impulse to the declaration of Regional Tourist Interest for the Corpus Christi celebrations (01/06/2017)

To speak of Archena and to speak of its patron saint festivities in honor of the Most Holy Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin of Health, is to speak of passion, tradition, history, unique holidays in the Region that make them worthy of being declared of Interest Regional Tourist, in this way the regional deputy of the PP and mayor of the municipality, Patricia Fernandez, has defended in the gallery of the Regional Assembly the motion that seeks to get this tourist badge for a festival that dates back to the eighteenth century when it was celebrated with procession By the streets of the town, organized by the corresponding brotherhoods, such as Our Lady of the Rosary, Corpus Christi, San Juan Bautista (Patron of the Parish) and the patron of the town that was then San Roque, moments in Those who adorned the streets and balconies to the step of custody in procession, according to the regional deputy recalled.

Patricia Fernández has recalled that it is in the nineteenth century that the Corpus Christi festivities begin to take on importance and has highlighted among all the festivities for its reason for being and for being the most ancient act, the procession of the Most Holy Body of Christ or " Corpus Christi ", being Archena one of the few localities of Spain that celebrate it in Thursday and in the afternoon, thanks to the Bull granted to the town of Archena by Pope Pío X 11 of March of 1910, has affirmed.

From the festivity, the regional deputy and regent of Archena has put in value the tradition of making carpets through the streets where the procession of the Most Holy Corpus Christi passes.

These carpets were initially made with flower petals and leaves of various plants, then used other materials such as sand, sawdust or salt, said Patricia Fernandez who has highlighted his fame and popularity.

We are indebted to the archers and archers who have preceded us, who started the patron saint festivities of our town back in the 18th century.
